It’s a little difficult to write a post everyday that provides a good summary of the day’s news headlines. Most of my insights would be second hand. Plus there are sites that sort of do that already. I’m also a little busy trying to find my first job as an architect and being a freelance Art Director for a web design company. I’ll use this area to highlight interesting architectural and design websites, in the meantime, until I come up with a better idea.

I’ve come across a new site - Space Invading. It’s a simple website that provides great images of built work and projects on a fairly regular basis.

You’ll also notice that, I have regrouped some of the news sources by topical focus. Different magazines and blogs have different scopes. In the meantime, enjoy all the headlines.

Looking Ahead

In times of crisis there always seems to be odd and desperate solutions. I’m sure there will be a focus on alternative energy entrepreneurship. I’m kind of wondering from an architectural standpoint, how architects will innovate. Or will that be left to the engineers and scientist.

The economy has dominated architectural news lately. With Obama’s upcoming inauguration, it should be interesting to see if his stimulus package addresses the aftermath of the housing collapse here in the United States.

Besides the United States, there are many other economies experiencing the global downturn. On a global scale, the environment is a problem that everyone shares. It’ll be intriguing to see what new innovations arise, as we collectively try to build more efficiently, and use cleaner energy. Hopefully cities like Dubai will not miss future opportunities to incorporate measures of sustainability, as the effects of the slumping global economy have hit the region.

P.S. I’ll get better at making these summaries, and hopefully they will have a more global view in the future.

I’ve been thinking about adding a small daily editorial section. It will be an editorial summary of the headlines within the previous 24 hours. I know it might be a little redundant, but I’ve got some time, and will be trying it out for one week starting, January 19th, 2009. Also, you will notice that “fresh” news links will have a subtle highlight. Headlines you have read will be crossed out. I’m also trying to work out a way to load this site quicker, so bear with me.
